What if DIA rejects my NZ passport photo?

Why is the NZ background grey, not white?
NZ DIA explicitly requires a plain LIGHT GREY background — pure white is rejected. We composite onto a DIA-compliant grey automatically. This is the #1 spec difference vs SG / MY / ID.
I wear glasses — can I keep them on?
No — DIA forbids glasses absolutely (since 2016), with no exceptions for clear-lens prescription glasses. Coloured contacts are also forbidden. Remove glasses for the photo.
What dimensions does DIA require?
35×45 mm (head height 32–36 mm = 71–80% of frame). Digital file minimum 900×1200 px, JPEG, 500 KB to 10 MB. We deliver a file that meets all of these.
Do I need a referee to sign the photo?
No — for online RealMe applications, the photo file is uploaded digitally and validated by DIA's automated checker. Your referee handles their part separately via an emailed link, never touching the photo file itself.
Can I use this photo for an Australian passport too?
No — Australian passport applications go through Australia Post in person, the photo cannot be uploaded digitally. For AU visa or citizenship via ImmiAccount, see our Australia visa SKU instead.
