What if MOFA rejects my passport photo?
Send us proof of rejection within 30 days and we'll refund ¥550 in full — or redo the photo at no charge.
Will this work for the My Number Portal?
Yes. The photo is delivered as a JPEG file ready for upload via the MOFA online passport application on My Number Portal (マイナポータル). You'll need a valid My Number Card with active digital certificate to use the online channel.
I wear glasses — will that be a problem?
Yes — MOFA's online passport application portal effectively forbids glasses, including clear-lens prescription glasses. Coloured contact lenses are also forbidden. Remove glasses for the photo. (Paper applications submitted at ward offices are slightly more lenient on clear glasses without glare.)
What dimensions does MOFA require?
35×45 mm (chin to crown 32–36 mm). Plain light-colour background — pure white is accepted, but pale grey or off-white also work. JPEG, no shadows, no patterns. We deliver a file that meets all of these.
Where will my photo be processed?
Your photo is uploaded to our servers, then sent to Google Gemini API (US/global servers) for compliance pre-check and background replacement, and to AWS Rekognition (US-East-1) for face landmark verification. Google retains submitted data for up to 24 hours for abuse monitoring per its API terms and does NOT use submitted data for model training. Our servers auto-delete the photo within 7 days of delivery (longer if the order is flagged for human review). We never sell or share.
